Road closure along Houston Avenue, between SR 43 and Seventh Avenue in Kings County for construction of a high-speed rail grade separation.

Work is scheduled to begin Monday, Dec. 8, 2025 and will continue through December 2026. Construction schedules are subject to change.

Detour

Eastbound Houston Avenue Detour:

  • Traffic going eastbound on Houston Avenue will be detoured north on SR 43, east on Hanford Armona Road, south on Seventh Avenue, then east on Houston Avenue.

Westbound Houston Avenue Detour:

  • Traffic going westbound on Houston Avenue will be detoured south on Seventh Avenue, west on Iona Avenue, north on SR 43, then west on Houston Avenue.

Signage will be in place to direct traffic. Access will be maintained for all property and business owners.

Description

Kings County, Calif. – The California High-Speed Rail Authority (Authority), in cooperation with design-build contractor Dragados-Flatiron Joint Venture (DFJV), announces a road closure along Houston Avenue, between State Route (SR) 43 and Seventh Avenue in Kings County for construction of a high-speed rail grade separation. Work is scheduled to begin Monday, Dec. 8, 2025 and will continue through December 2026. Construction schedules are subject to change.

This work is part of Construction Package 2-3 (CP 2-3), the 65-mile stretch of high-speed rail between East American Avenue in Fresno County and one-mile north of the Tulare-Kern County line.

All construction activities and schedules are subject to change. The California High-Speed Rail project is considered a critical infrastructure sector, and as the project continues, staff, contractors and construction workers are following specific guidelines to ensure the health and safety of all employees due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Traffic laws will be fully enforced and commuters are expected to be aware of the surrounding activities, remain alert and watch for construction vehicles and personnel.
