Road closure at Cairo Avenue, between Ninth and Eighth avenues in Kings County, beginning Monday, Jan. 6 through 2020.

This work is part of construction of an overpass that will allow high-speed rail to travel over the existing roadway.

Detour

EASTBOUND TRAFFIC
Traffic going eastbound on Cairo Avenue will be detoured north on Ninth Avenue and east on Corona Avenue.

SOUTHBOUND / WESTBOUND TRAFFIC
Traffic going southbound/westbound will be detoured west on Corona Avenue and south on Ninth Avenue.

Access to Eighth Avenue will be maintained at all times during construction. Closure and detour signage will be in place to direct traffic.

Description

The California High-Speed Rail Authority (Authority), in cooperation with design-build contractor Dragados-Flatiron Joint Venture (DFJV), announces a road closure at Cairo Avenue, between Ninth and Eighth avenues in Kings County, will be closed for construction of an overpass that will allow high-speed rail to travel over the existing roadway. Work is scheduled to begin Monday, Jan. 6 and continue through 2020.

This work is part of Construction Package 2-3 (CP 2-3), the 65-mile stretch of high-speed rail between East American Avenue in Fresno County and one-mile north of the Tulare-Kern County line.All construction activities and schedules are subject to change. The California High-Speed Rail project is considered a critical infrastructure sector, and as the project continues, staff, contractors and construction workers are following specific guidelines to ensure the health and safety of all employees due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Traffic laws will be fully enforced and commuters are expected to be aware of the surrounding activities, remain alert and watch for construction vehicles and personnel.
